The Employer is required to keep wage and employment records for at least 12 months. In practice, it is advisable for The Employer to maintain wage payment records for the whole term of employment.

One acceptable arrangement is to pay The Helper by cheque every month so that the relevant bank statements could serve as wage payment records.

If you choose to pay by cheque, please make a non-bearer cheque out to The Helper in The Helper's name exactly as it appears on the passport or HK ID. Please make sure the cheque is not crossed (ac/payee only) and the "or bearer" part on the payee portion is struck out. (In Hong Kong, this type of order cheque can only be cashed by the payee.)

In this way, The Helper could cash the cheque personally upon presentation of proper identification without having to maintain a bank account.

Some Employers find it prudent to keep copy of the cheques for reference. The bank will charge a considerable amount of money if for any reason you need to request a copy from them in the future.
